Mass & fellowship 2026:
Beginning anew in Christ

On 9 January 2026, members and friends of Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Singapore gathered at St Ignatius Hall for the annual Mass & Fellowship, themed “Beginning Anew in Christ”.

The evening began with Mass celebrated by Fr. Colin Tan, who reminded the community in his homily that every new chapter in our journey is an invitation to renew our commitment to Christ’s call to serve others. Grounded in faith, we are reminded that our work with refugees and displaced persons is ultimately a response to this call — to accompany, to serve, and to walk in solidarity with those who are most vulnerable.

Following the Mass, Gordon introduced his successor Elisabeth Wong, our newly appointed Executive Director of JRS Singapore who will continue our mission for the years ahead.

A highlight of the evening was a tribute to Elaine and Gordon, who were stepping down as Country Director and Executive Director respectively. A slideshow honoured their years of service, leadership, and commitment dedicated to building the JRS community in Singapore.

Members expressed their heartfelt appreciation, and Fr. Colin presented them with plants as a token of gratitude, symbolising the many seeds of compassion and service planted through JRS Singapore. The evening concluded with fellowship over dinner prepared by volunteers, and cake-cutting to wish Elaine and Gordon, well in their next chapter.

The gathering was also a memorable fellowship for JRS members to catchup with one another and renew their commitment to the causes.
