Empowering learners through practical skills and digital confidence
The first cohort of the newly enhanced Cisco Digital Literacy & Microsoft-Google Workshop concluded successfully early Dec 2025, marking an exciting milestone in strengthening digital readiness within the community. This refreshed workshop model introduced several new features that made the learning experience more engaging, interactive, and rewarding for participants.
This pilot cohort comprised 11 participants, with the youngest learner aged 16 and the oldest aged 40, representing diverse learning stages and life experiences. The workshop was open to refugees of all nationalities, and included learners from Afghanistan, Somalia, and Sudan, all working to build practical digital skills and confidence for their academic and professional futures.
New additions that made the workshop more engaging
- Integration of Cisco Digital Literacy Modules
For the first time, the workshop combined Microsoft–Google training with Cisco’s Digital Awareness, Using Computer and Mobile Devices, and Creating Digital Content modules. Students were highly motivated by the opportunity to earn official Cisco digital badges, which added a meaningful credential to their learning experience.
- Hands-on Learning and Practical Tasks
Every session included real-time practice using Microsoft and Google applications. Students created documents, spreadsheets, charts, and structured presentations. This hands-on approach helped them immediately apply what they learned and gain confidence in their digital abilities.
- Group Final Presentation Project
To strengthen teamwork and communication skills, participants worked in groups to produce a final presentation demonstrating their learning. This project encouraged creativity, collaboration, and responsibility — key skills in both academic and professional settings.
Positive feedback from students
Participants shared very encouraging feedback throughout the program. Many expressed that they:
“Gained confidence in using laptops and digital tools!”
“Understood online safety more clearly.”
“Developed stronger skills in Microsoft and Google applications.”
“Enjoyed the blended learning approach of live practice + Cisco modules.”
“Felt motivated by earning digital badges.♥♥”
“Appreciated the group project for building teamwork and communication.”

Several students mentioned that even though they began with limited digital experience, they now feel equipped to use these tools independently.
Showcasing student achievements
The final presentations demonstrated impressive effort and creativity. Students showcased clean document layouts, organized data tables, well-designed charts, and thoughtful reflections on digital literacy.
A special highlight was the work of Tooba Khademi, who received the Best Student Award for her exceptional leadership, consistent participation, and high-quality work. As a group leader, she guided her team effectively and delivered one of the most polished and well-structured presentations in the cohort.
“As the trainer, it was inspiring to see how engaged and committed the students were throughout the workshop. Their eagerness to learn, willingness to practice new skills, and consistent effort in completing the Cisco modules truly stood out. The new workshop format proved highly effective in building both confidence and practical digital skills. I look forward to supporting future cohorts through this meaningful learning journey.”
