Feast Day Camino –
Walking, Praying, Connecting
The Church of St. Ignatius celebrated its parish feast day on July 26, 2025, with a spirit of joy and gratitude. JRS volunteers marked the day with a mini Ignatian-guided Camino centred on “Walk with God in Creation”. JRS long-time volunteer Karen Singarayar shared her experience of the event, which united volunteers, friends, and family in prayer, reflection, and celebration.
Participants could choose between a 7 km or a 3.5 km walk. I joined the shorter route, starting at the Botanical Gardens and ending at St. Ignatius Church. The walk included moments of silent contemplation, inviting reflection on how God was speaking to us as we wandered through the beauty of nature with fellow sojourners.
Walking with friends deepened the experience. The shared laughter, conversations, and encouragement mirrored the spirit of St. Ignatius and his companions, who found God in prayer, friendship, and mission.
The Camino concluded with a generous feast, where stories and laughter continued. It embodied Ignatian values of gratitude, companionship, and community. On a personal note, I am deeply grateful for the chance to exercise, connect with friends, pray, and feast. The day served as a reminder of God’s blessings and providence.
A heartfelt word of thanks also goes to the organizing committee and mentors of refugee interns Aziz and Masiha. They supported event communications, and with Donna Ong’s guidance, they designed a commemorative T-shirt. Their contributions were deeply appreciated.
How did our interns feel about their involvement?
“
The most memorable moment for me was seeing the final outcome of my work, especially when I received the t-shirt that I had designed. It was a moment of happiness and pride to see my idea come to life. I would also like to sincerely thank the JRS team for providing me with this opportunity … and I am very thankful to Ms. Donna for her clear explanations and guidance.” ~ Aziz
“
One of the most valuable lessons I took away was how to apply the skills I learned in my design class to a real-world project. I also discovered how important collaboration and feedback are in refining ideas. Seeing the final design come together was a proud moment for me… [This internship] pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me a chance to contribute to something meaningful. I truly enjoyed being part of this project and appreciate the support I received throughout.” ~ Masiha
